~Rank Guide~
LEADER
he person that instructs everyone. This person takes control of all situations, and they make sure their particular Clan knows everything that they need to. People look to this particular person for guidance and understanding. This person is responsible for keeping track of their allegiances, how other Clans feel toward them, and other things. The respect levels of the leader depends on the Clan and their culture.
HEALER
The person with all the medicinal knowledge. A Clan can have more than one Healer, but it's never been seen before, or if it has it was never discussed. They are trusted to heal their own Clan, and interpret Omens for their Leader. They aren't allowed to have a boyfriend/girlfriend or have offspring, since kids take so long to grow up and they'd be out of commission for pretty much the rest of their life, unless they were willing to work while suckling an infant/managing a hyperactive toddler/keeping track of a drowsy teen. This goes for both genders, as males can also be distracted by their flesh-and-blood ties to children and those they've coupled with in the past. There have been a few unfaithful Healers, but it's so rare that the Clans aren't really concerned.
DEPUTY
A trusted Warrior who has been dutied with taking on leadership after the Leader is gone/retired. This person, more often than not, is older and more experienced than other candidates, and knows more about the world/its inhabitants than the others. This person is entrusted with the challenge of keeping patrols in check, borders marked up, and skirmishes finished off. They should have taken up at least one apprentice.
WARRIORS
The hunter-gatherers of the Clan, the heart and soul of the Clan altogether. It's these people that are the driving force of the Clan: they are the ones who hunt and find food for their people, and end up having children to further the generations of the Clan. They are also the ones who defend the territory of their Clan, and go to Gatherings to represent that Clan under the full moon.
TUNNELERS
*WindClan Only*
People who spend their entire lives underground. Kids make the decision whether or not they want to be a Moor Runner (surface Warrior), or a Tunneler. If they do decide to be a Tunneler, they spend the rest of their lives under the surface. Despite never again coming up to the sunlight, they do visit the Gatherings. There's a very special tunnel that leads over to the Old Signal Tower, which pokes up just beside the pedestal, hidden by brush. By the time a person is considered a senior Tunneler, they are entirely blind and pale as snow from lack of sunlight reaching them.
QUEENS
The mothers of the Clan. They are here for widely varied amounts of time: some of them decide to be apprenticed under the Queens straight from their apprenticeship, while others become Queens for just a little while before returning to their duties, and more still go in and never come back out! They tend to be the most protected of all the ranks, since they carry precious cargo in their bellies.
NURSES
*ThunderClan Only*
A side-rank from the Queens, these people can either be male or female. They are the ones who help a mother get through pregnancy, and they are the ones who help her through labor and such. They can either turn into a Queen if they become pregnant, or convert to a Warrior of they decide they don't want the position anymore.
APPRENTICES
Kids over the age of 5 years that haven't earned their Warrior Name yet. They are assigned to one or two Warriors to be taught the way of Clan life. They are usually the ones bogged down with chores, such as switching out bedding, caring for the Elders, keeping the Nursery clean, etc. It's not a pleasant time for kids, but it's better than going to School (not that they know that)! They usually become Warriors around the age of 16 - 20, depending on how well they've grown. They can become a Warrior early, and the youngest known warrior was 12.
KIDS
Children under 5 years old. They aren't old enough, or mature enough, to understand how the world works or how to take things seriously. They stay with their mothers until they reach this age, sleeping in the Nursery with other kids. Until then, these children have their fun in the daytime, loving life and living it to the fullest. They sometimes are the ones that discover the most uses out of things, and also make up the stories that survive through the generations.
ELDERS/SENIORS
*River/ThunderClan Only*
People that are really old coots; probably around the 40-60 age mark! Very few people make it this far, and if they do they are highly revered as sacred people. They are kept as comfortable as possible in their final months of life, with the softest bedding and the warmest sleeping place in their entire Camp. They are often sought for stories, wisdom, advice, and guidance: and, depending on the elder, they just might give it!
